A few years ago I read the book East of Eden and I distinctly remember the moment when I closed the book on it’s last page. Finishing Steinbeck’s novel felt like saying goodbye to an old friend and I have yet to find a book that has had the same impact. The story was full of joy, pain, adventure, love, and heart ache. It was wonderfully human.
I think that’s why we love Mike & Debbie’s story so much.
It’s not perfect. There’s joy, adventure, love, and parts that just make your heart hurt….but each of these are what gives weight to their story and what makes us all….human.
Moments like Mike jumping in the lake with his best friends
Moments like Debbie sharing tears with her mother and sister as she slipped on her wedding dress.
Moments like the speeches that shared stories with 200 people about growing up and falling in love.
Moments like Debbie dancing with her father, not knowing at the time that it would be their last.
In the midst of a busy day, moments like these can seem small. It’s often not until we’re able to step away to realize the weight of them. These precious stories are why weddings are so much bigger than linens and flowers. These are days that shape us – they create a space for us to reflect, give thanks, and to say the things we’re all too busy to share.
Before you scroll too fast through these images, we’d encourage you to watch the slideshow below. Mike and Debbie are incredible people and in an effort to bottle up this day the best we know how, we asked their family members and friends to share words and memories about the newlyweds.
