One of the most meaningful things we’ve experienced in our marriage is the joy that can be found in selflessness. Of loving the other person well, putting their needs first, putting aside the part of yourself that wants to be right.

At the end of the day, we’re all human…everyone wants things to go their way. We live in a culture that tells us to look out for number one, a “generation me” …so it’s no wonder it’s so hard to put others first sometimes.

It’s not always easy, but it is ALWAYS WORTH IT.

On Lauren and Rhett’s day, we were so beautifully reminded of this.

You always learn so much about a couple from the toasts. Stories from childhood you’ve never heard before, stories that depict the true character of a person, of their values, of their strengths.

On this night, toasts told stories of selflessness…of true friendship, of a willingness to stand by someone’s side and battle through the hard, the ugly, the uncomfortable. At one point during the best man’s speech, he asked for anyone who had ever been helped out by Lauren and Rhett to raise their hand…and instantaneously, eyes welled with tears as the impact set in…nearly every hand in the crowd of 100+ guests was raised high.

Lauren and Rhett, your willingness to put others first and your incredible hearts for truly “doing life” with others through thick and thin will be a great gift to your marriage. Thank you for allowing us to be part of your day.
